Stay Safe and Warm This Winter!

Season's Greetings from Our Fire Station!

As the winter season unfolds, the importance of fire safety in our homes becomes more crucial. Recent events in our community have highlighted the need for vigilance and preparedness. Here's our guide to staying safe this December:

1. Smoke Detector Check: A Lifesaver in Your Home

  • Regular Checks: Test your smoke detectors monthly. It's a quick and easy way to ensure they're working correctly.
  • Battery Replacement: Change the batteries in your smoke detectors at least once a year. A good reminder is to do it when you change your clocks for daylight saving time.
  • Detector Placement: Install smoke detectors in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement.

2. Heating Safety: Warmth Without the Worry

  • Space Heater Use: Keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn. Always turn them off when leaving the room or going to bed.
  • Fireplace Safety: Have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually. Use a screen to stop sparks from flying into the room.
  • Furnace Care: Ensure your furnace is inspected and serviced by a professional every year.

3. Carbon Monoxide Awareness: The Silent Killer

  • CO Detectors: Install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.
  • Never Use Generators Indoors: Generators, grills, and similar devices should never be used inside your home or garage.

4. Emergency Preparedness: Plan and Practice

  • Fire Escape Plan: Review and practice your fire escape plan with all family members. Ensure everyone knows two ways out of each room.
  • Emergency Kit: Keep an emergency kit with essentials like flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit.

5. Holiday Decor Safety: Light Up with Care

  • Inspect Lights: Check holiday lights each year for frayed wires or excessive wear.
  • Never Leave Lights Unattended: Turn off all holiday lights before going to bed or leaving the house.

Let's make this holiday season a safe and joyous one. Your proactive steps can ensure a cozy, secure winter for you and your loved ones.

Thank you for being a part of our community, and we wish you a safe and happy December
